Press & Reviews

“O Teu Nome É” merges animation with reality, documentary with reportage… the result is a shocking and impactful retelling and deepening of a case that, despite being forgotten by the country, deserves to be remembered.

A sociological look at prejudice, poverty, prostitution, delinquency and crime (…) feels so far away [from the reality of] the majority of the audience – that one could say it’s fiction. “O Teu Nome É” provides a telling portrait of a conservative society, a society that needs more projects like this one… to change mentalities, educate, move forward and to prevent the possibility of such an episode from happening again.

Emanuel Candeias, in magazine-hd.com, 20.07.2021

The most violent moment of the night, [was] the animated documentary “O Teu Nome É” (…) sustained by a minimal, but very well made animation, Paulo Patrício crafted a work that, tells a story of great importance to our contemporary cultural heritage. Lest we forget.

Pedro Sesinando, in filmspot.pt, 19.07.2021

Paulo Patrício’s work doesn’t give in to demagoguery or easiness. Rejecting a “good people vs bad people” structure, he explores the complex circumstances surrounding this case of transphobia and human rights. The outcome isn’t just just a sensitive tribute, but provides an important perspective on the human condition in the context of contemporary Portugal.

Guilherme F. Alcobia, in c7nema.net, 17.07.2017

Paulo Patrício uses the diverse possibilities of animation to make an essay not so much “about” Gisberta, but “around her” (…) A movie that tries to fill the emptiness of her absence through the memories of her presence, with remarkable empathy and subtlety and through exploring a mixture of different formal environments.

Jorge Mourinha, in Público – Ípsilon, 17.07.2021

Paulo Patrício is back to Curtas with another pertinent and sensitive film that gives room to unheard voices. Far from the “soundbite” culture of most mainstream news media. Patrício uses his film as an opportunity to broaden the reflection on gender and sexual discrimination – an issue still so entrenched in the Portuguese society.

Emanuel Candeias, in magazine-hd.com, 20.07.2021

Pedro Sesinando, in filmspot.pt, 19.07.2021

Guilherme F. Alcobia, in c7nema.net, 17.07.2021

Jorge Mourinha, in Público – Ípsilon, 17.07.2021

Paulo Cunha, in catálogo do Curtas Vila do Conde – Festival Internacional de Cinema, 2021
